ISLAND COP
An original, intriguing detective series - its average share of 72,4% makes it one of the highest rated productions ever shown on Danish television
On his night off tough 35-year-old city cop Christian Torp pulls in at a gas station where there is a hold-up in progress. Without knowing that he’ll regret it for the rest of his life, he ignores his wife’s pleas not to intervene. In the tussle that follows, she is gunned own in front him and their 11-year-old daughter.
The tragedy brings father and daughter closer together – but it also totally changes their lives. Shortly afterwards Christian Torp is transferred to what looks like an idyllic rural island community to start a new, presumably quiet life. But the island of Samsø is no different from the rest of the world. There, too, there are paedophiles, murderers, bank robbers, peeping toms and smugglers. Along with the job goes Freddie – an decrepit police dog – and gorgeous secretary Ulla, whom Christian soon discovers to be a dab hand at the islanders’ favourite sport: “You scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours”. Other recurrent figures include the island gossip, Ejvind the cabbie, controversial pastor Dorte and her husband, Keld, an enthusiastic ornithologist.
