MY AMERICAN FAMILY
Gaetano Merenda and his son Antonio travel to America to attend a family reunion and discover that it wasn't the distance which broke off the family for 100 years ago but an unsuccesful bank robber.
100 years ago the majority of the Merenda family emigrated to America from Paterno Calabro, a poor little village in the South Italy. The contacts with the old country gradually dwindled.
In 2002 Gaetano Merenda decides to restore the broken contacts and to bring the family together again. He will travel to the USA, to Frontenac in Kansas for a family reunion with the American clan. To present for the Americans Paterno Calabro, where the family memory started, Gaetano wants to make his own videodiary on the village. He asks his son Antonio to help him with the film and the journey to America.
Antonio has been living in Stockholm (Sweden) since 12 years and he has seldom contacts with the family in Italy but he agrees to meet his father’s wishes.Gaetano’s videodiary and later on the joint journey to America develops into a research into the family history and into an adventure which none of them expected.
