A DECENT FACTORY

Is there a sort of softer, Nordic capitalism behind Nokia’s worldwide success?

A DECENT FACTORY

There are always cultural and moral issues to be dealt with when Western companies move their production to countries where costs – and standards for working conditions – are low. In A Decent Factory we follow two women, a Finnish Nokia employee and a British consultant, on their visit to a facory in China. Here they “clash” with Chinese culture – and – a male European manager who brags about his female Chinese employees who have “long maintenance”. Yet things are not always what they seem to be…
A Decent Factory is an in-depth analysis of the complexity of globalization and its famous practice of outsourcing. With his seemingly dispassionate approach, award winning director Thomas Balmès provides a pitiless document on a furiously modern world.
