DANISH SOLUTION, THE
The Rescue of the Danish Jews
When Hitler threatened Denmark’s Jews, the community arose overnight to save them. Danes from all levels of society stood up to the German might at a time when most of Europe turned a blind eye.
Sixty years ago the Final solution was attempted in Denmark. It never happened – over 95 % of the country’s Jewish population survived the war. How and why Jews escaped the German plans for their extermination is the subject of this documentary film. Through the very-human testimony of survivors, this story of the Danish rescue is told with clarity, empathy and humour. Because what happened in Denmark has taken on legendary proportions, the filmmakers have chosen to draw a historically accurate portrait, separating the truths from the many myths – such as the Danish King wearing the Yellow Star.
