SOLO - DECLINE OF A POPSTAR
How does a young man fall from stardom to outcast in the blink of an eye, tore down by the ones that built him up?
The Idol-series Popstars took the world by storm. All around, countries have their version of the talent show, racketeering unknown talents into stardom in just a few weeks. After winning Popstars, the young teen Jon was the hottest name in 2002 – every door was open for him, every red carpet was rolled out and every teen girl’s heart was beating for him.
Today Jon has fallen from star to paria. After the tabloids have had a field day reporting story after story, most doors are closed and the red carpets are all rolled in. What happened? This shocking film by prize winning director Kasper Torsting is the story of how a young man’s life turns from dream to ruin in the hype of the media.
“Solo” follows Jon through a hectic year of ups and downs. We get an unfiltered glimpse into a world that we only know from the glossy magazines. The film depicts the cruel and naked truth about a young man’s loneliness, in a world filled with glamour, VIP parties, sex, alcohol and cocaine galore – and backstabbers. A world so focused on profit that people is something you can merchandise – or throw away -all in the name of entertainment.
“Solo” is a provoking and deeply touching film about decline – about searching for the meaning of life while the sky comes crashing down, about fighting for ones life and regaining respect.
