RED ZONE
Comradeship, exercises and extremely hard training
A new series on special military forces from both Denmark and abroad. How do you cope living with the fact that you might loose your life trying to help others?
The Helicopter team in the North Atlantic
We meet the rescue team from the inspection ship, Hvidbjørnen. Here, we accompany the helicopter team on a rescue mission and an exercise in Greenland. A job where nature and extreme low temperatures are constant death threats (cause death to be a constant blind.) A rough life with extreme weather conditions and tough exercises. We participate in a night flight over the North Atlantic, the rescue of tourists, and a great rescue exercise in which a cutter struck on an ice berg.
The Danish troops in Afghanistan
We visit the Danish forces in Camp Bastian, Afghanistan. During the visit, we went with the troops on patrol and were shot at by Taliban rebel forces. Through the time that the film crew stayed in Afghanistan during the cold winter; they had a close and unique insight into the work of the Danish soldiers’ work and their life in the camp. We follow the scouting squadron – officially called 2nd Light Scouting Squadron, and we follow one of the patrols in the area both in combat with the Taliban and in friendly trips to the neighbouring villages.
Danish Soldiers in the Jungle
Red Zone follow the two soldiers Anders Dupont Svendsen and Henrik Lykke of the Jutland Dragoon Regiment, while they participated in one of the world’s hardest military training courses in the South American jungle, i.e. in French Guyana, where they spent seven weeks with the Foreign Legion in choking heat and humidity. Merciless training, physical suffering and almost inhuman hardships in mud and water were all in a day’s work for the two soldiers, who had to get used to never being clean, and evening pursuits included gun cleaning, field rations, and foot care. Through the documentary, viewers get to follow a two-day field drill constantly offering new challenges.
