ADAM IN THE INSECT'S PARADISE

World-class wildlife photographer and director Adam Schmedes looks back at his childhood in Provence, where his love for nature was born as he studied the gruesome dramas that unfolded in the insect world.

ADAM IN THE INSECT'S PARADISE

We share with him his fascination of the warrior among insects, the heavily armed Praying Mantis, that in biting its mate in half stops nothing short of cannibalism in order to be able to lay more eggs.
We hear how he camped for three days to get a glimpse of Europe’s largest insect, the Saga Pedo. We meet the amazing Tarantula mother, that for months carries hundreds of spider babies on her back and see what happens when one day a hungry Praying Mantis knocks on her door and we witness the Orb Web spider building her architectural masterwork of a nest, loosing four fifth of her weight.

A Boyhood of Insects paints a unique picture of a passion, which has enthralled Adam Schmedes all his life and it is told with warmth, humour and a deep love to these small creatures.
